Getting Started with NDC Lookup

System Requirements

  • iOS/iPadOS: Version 17.0 or later
  • Mac: macOS 14.0 or later (via Mac Catalyst)
  • Devices: iPhone, iPad, and Mac
  • Storage: Approximately 250 MB (includes the bundled NDC database)

Installation

  1. Open the App Store on your device
  2. Search for “NDC Lookup
  3. Tap Get and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password
  4. Once installed, tap Open or find the NDC Lookup icon on your home screen

First Launch

When you first open NDC Lookup, the app will prepare the database for use. This is a one-time process that takes a few seconds. Once complete, you'll see the main interface with five tabs:

  • Search — Search the NDC database by drug name, NDC, ingredient, or labeler
  • Browse — Browse products using filters only
  • Converter — Convert between 10-digit and 11-digit NDC formats
  • Scan — Scan drug barcodes with your camera (iOS/iPadOS only)
  • Settings — App information, database details, and support

Quick Start

Search for a Drug

  1. Tap the Search tab
  2. Type a drug name (e.g., “simvastatin”) in the search bar
  3. Tap a result to view full product details

Scan a Barcode

  1. Tap the Scan tab
  2. Point your camera at the barcode on a drug package
  3. The app will decode the UPC and look up the matching NDC

Convert an NDC

  1. Tap the Converter tab
  2. Enter a 10-digit or 11-digit NDC
  3. The app displays the converted format

Tip: NDC Lookup works entirely offline. No internet connection is needed after installation.
